This resort, formerly the Hotel Villa del Sol, was recently taken over by the Kor Hotel group (which also owns the swanky Viceroy Santa Monica and Tides South Beach) and given a thorough makeover.

The Tides' 72 guest rooms are housed in two-storey thatched cottages, and rooms are decorated with white slip-covered couches, canopied beds and marble bathrooms. The largest rooms have private infinity pools and terraces, and for guests in need of extra attention, the presidential suite comes with its own butler who is available 24/7 for service.

Those looking to get sand between their toes can head to the hotel's six hundred foot long private beach on Playa la Ropa, and there are four swimming pools for a cooling dip. In order for guests to attain complete relaxation, the Tides Zihuatanejo also has a newly renovated spa with twelve treatment rooms and products by Osea.

Rates: Starting at $500 per night
Opening date: August 2007
