Banyan Tree, Maldives, Madivaru
Banyan Tree, Maldives, Madivaru
For an idyllic combination of tropical heat, perfect beaches and complete privacy, head to the new Banyan Tree Maldives. This resort has only six tented villas and is located on a private island southwest of the capital Male.

Guests can reach the resort by seaplane or by taking an overnight trip on the Banyan Vella, a Turkish gullet, or yacht. Each villa comes with its own butler, and the accommodation is actually a cluster of tents - one for living, sleeping, and bathing.

The tent interiors have wooden floors, teak furniture and canopied ceilings, and the bath tent has a pair of spa beds. For relaxing, each villa comes with a plunge pool and private deck.

Guests can choose to dine in a tented restaurant or in the privacy of their villa. If they can tear themselves away from the resort, guests can opt to take a guided snorkelling tour, sunset cruise or book a spa treatment.

Rates: $3,900 per night
Opening date: October 2007
