Elektra teams with Egreetings; Western Wireless expands into rural markets

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Elektra Records, which holds the rights to such artists as The Doors, AC/DC and Third Eye Blind, said after the bell Monday that it would partner with online greeting card company Egreetings to market online musical greeting cards featuring Elektra artists.
Wireless telecommunications provider Western Wireless Corp. said that it would provide competitive local telephone service in rural Kansas and Minnesota communities.
And storage software provider Veritas Software Corp. said that it had entered a partnership with Oracle Corp. and Sun Microsystems to provide Internet businesses with a variety of services.

That's the premise behind a new agreement between music recording company Elektra Entertainment Group and Egreetings, an online card and gift company.
The two companies have decided to market online greeting cards featuring top Electra recording artists such as pop star Vitamin C, Elektra said Monday.
Greg Thompson, vice president and general manager of San Francisco-based Elektra, said the agreement would give the company's artists more visibility.
Privately held Elektra, which holds the recording rights to such artists as The Doors, AC/DC, Linda Ronstadt and Third Eye Blind, is a division of Warner Music Group.
Nancy Levin, president of San Francisco-based Egreetings' entertainment division, said online music cards are one of the most popular channels on the company's Web site.

Shares of Egreetings (EGRT: Research, Estimates) fell 25/32 to close at 2-13/16 on the Nasdaq Monday.
Western Wireless Corp.
Wireless telecommunications provider Western Wireless Corp. said Monday that it would provide competitive local telephone service in rural Kansas and Minnesota communities.
The Bellevue, Wash.-based company, which had $567.3 million in annual revenue last year and operates under the Cellular One brand, said it had received clearance to provide service in February and April from each state's public utilities commissions.
Western Wireless has installed competitive service in more than 20 rural communities since first winning approval, and plans to expand its service offering to more than 100 rural communities by the end of the year, officials said.

Shares of Western Wireless (WWCA: Research, Estimates), which serves 874,000 customers nationwide, closed up 3/16 at 47-3/16 Monday.
Veritas Software Corp.
Storage software provider Veritas Software Corp. said Monday that it had entered a partnership with Oracle Corp. and Sun Microsystems to provide Internet businesses with a set of integrated services.
The three companies have formed a Joint Escalation Center staffed by senior computer support engineers, officials said.
Based in Mountain View, Calif., Veritas (VRTS: Research, Estimates) reported $596.1 million in annual revenue last year.
Veritas gained 3/4 to close at 102-7/8 on the Nasdaq Monday.
Shares of Redwood, Calif.-based Oracle (ORCL: Research, Estimates), which reported revenue of $8.8 billion last year, slipped 2-1/4 to close at 67-13/16 Monday.
Shares of Palo Alto, Calif.-based Sun Microsystems (SUNW: Research, Estimates), which posted $11.7 billion in annual revenue last year, closed up 2-5/8 to 79-7/8 on the Nasdaq.

No major economic reports are scheduled for release Tuesday or Wednesday. But several reports are due out Thursday, including the first-quarter gross domestic product, the number of initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ended May 20, and existing home sales and the help-wanted index for the month of April.
