NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Amazon.com and Sprint PCS Group unveiled a new service Wednesday that allows Sprint PCS users to order products sold by the online retailers from their wireless phones.
Financial terms of the pact were not disclosed.
Internet-ready Sprint PCS phone customers will be able to open accounts and shop online by selecting Amazon.com from the phone's MiniBrowser menu. Users can buy products including books, music, DVDs, videos, toys, video games, software, home-improvement items, and consumer electronics, while connected to the Sprint PCS Wireless Web.
In addition, Sprint PCS Wireless Web customers will be able to buy and send gifts by entering the recipient's e-mail address on their wireless phone. Amazon will handle the rest of the fulfillment process, such as contacting the recipient to arrange delivery. Other wireless shopping features will include specific product searches, price comparisons and order status updates.
The shopping offering comes at the height of the crucial Christmas e-commerce season, in which analysts predict sales could reach the $15 billion mark.
"With today's announcement, we bring our customers the nation's leading online shopping destination to the palm of their hand," said Andrew Sukawaty, Sprint PCS president.
Amazon (AMZN) dipped 1-11/16 Tuesday to 86-1/16. Sprint PCS Group (PCS) fell 7/16 to 94-5/16. Back to top
