NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Canada's largest stock market closed higher Monday on support from New York's Dow Jones industrial average and a firm banking sector.
The key TSE 300 Composite Index climbed 17.6 points, or 0.27 percent, to 6,652.80. Advancers outpaced decliners 566 to 480 with 244 issues unchanged.
"As long as we've got this kind of optimism in New York, it'll help us too," said Fred Ketchen, senior vice-president of ScotiaMcLeod Inc.
Elsewhere in the region, the Montreal Portfolio gained 3.86, or 0.11 percent, to 3,560.45.
Bucking the trend among the Canadian bourses was the Vancouver Composite, which fell 0.92, or 0.22 percent, to finish at 423.10.Back to top
